Ember Local

Ember, installed in your restaurant

The same platform as Ember in the cloud —collaborative cart, kitchen, floor, billing and analytics—, run by your team from tablets and working even if the internet drops. The database lives on a PC in your venue.

How it works

One PC acts as the server

Usually the register computer. It runs the whole of Ember and stays on during service.

Other terminals connect through the browser

Waiter tablets and the kitchen screen connect to that PC’s address on your local network. Nothing is installed on them.

Windows installer

A single installer that bundles everything needed. Nothing to install or configure separately.

System tray icon

Shows service status and lets you shut it down. On start, Ember opens the browser automatically.

Works without internet

Day-to-day operation —taking orders, kitchen (KDS), ticket printing and cash close— does not depend on the connection. The connection is used to validate the license and receive updates.

If you go several days in a row without internet, Ember Local keeps operating through a grace period and then asks you to reconnect before taking more payments. Your data is never deleted.

Your data, on your server

The database lives on your venue’s server PC, not in the cloud. Ember Local makes automatic backups to that PC’s disk. The analytics you see are for your venue; running several branches from one account is part of Ember in the cloud (Enterprise).

Updates and support

Updates are manual: Ember Local notifies you inside the app when a new version is available and you choose when to install it, outside peak hours. The annual license covers maintenance and support from the Vanter team.
